Social isolation is having small or non existent network of relationships. Some types of loneliness are; I am new to a situation, I am different, No- sweetheart or animal companion, No one has time for me, I don’t trust, The quiet presence feels lonely, I have no connection.
How aloneness does affect Mental Health?

Sleeping difficulties or waking difficulties

Unsafe environment. Unrealistic expectations. Low education and income
Inability to access activities. Early life experiences. Mobility challenges
Geographic location. Minimal social network. Language and cultural challenges
Pre existing mental health conditions. Lack of family.
WHAT HELPS?
- Consider identifying ways to reduce and prevent problems
- Choose a nearby friend or support person to stay in touch with.
- Learn how to use technology to build connections
- Get outdoors and book a social function to attend
- Contact a community club or learning centre join a group of interest.
- Volunteer in a program
- Visit the local library to see what is happening in your community
- Care for a pet a wonderful companion
- Join a Cultural or Faith group connected to your values and believes
- Attend group support mental health awareness days,
- Educate yourself on new coping tools and signs to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness
- Talk to a local GP or Counsellor on what is concerning you problem solve together for your future
